ExorSystems, Inc Role-Playing Game - Plus Spook Central Exclusive Ghost

Some of you may remember the Ghostbusters role-playing games released by West End Games in the late 1980s/early 1990s. Sadly, the company went out of business a long time ago, and with no indication of a new licensee on the horizon, what are you going to do to satisfy that Ghostbusters RPG itch? Well, you could track down some old copies of the West End books, or you could check out a new RPG called ExorSystems, Inc. by Octavirate Games.

I have just added the game to Spook Central's Ghostbusters Games page (it's at the bottom of the page), so go there for all the relevant links. The makers of the game have even given me a really cool ghost that was created specifically for Spook Central's visitors. You can see a drawing of it, and download the PDF, from the Games page.

To get a feel for the game setting, here's the opening text from the Sneaking Preview:

Your life was normal, sane and, lets face it, just a bit boring.

Then something happened: a ghost was in your attic, a goblin was in your car, a troll destroyed your office or a banshee got a close friend. Somewhere along the way you came face to face with the supernatural and it came face to face with you. You aren't alone.

Ever since the Tunguska Event of 1908 paranormal incidents have been on the rise worldwide. The Ectonic Progression is underway. Is it the doom of mankind? Perhaps. Is it the end of the world? Probably not. Is it an unparalleled business opportunity? Definitely.

The dead are rising from their graves, demons walk the earth and people are scared out of their minds. Where blades and bullets fail, however, science is ready to step up to the plate for the future of mankind. Sure, there are a lot of anti-paranormal outfits out there: Department-7, PRECOG, the Mithra Group and dozens of small vigilante organizations. But why chase shadows when you can turn on the lights?

ExorSystems, Inc offers the tools, the training and the know-how you need to fight the darkness and still pull down a paycheck. If you plan on spending most of your time stalking every unnatural horror that creeps, slithers, swims or flies you ought to at least get decent pay and benefits out of the deal. ExorSystems, Inc is here to offer you that opportunity in exchange for franchise fees and a meager percentage off the top.

Obviously ExorSystems is based on Ghostbusters, but it also delves into Men in Black, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Hellboy territory. You don't have to join up with the Ghostbusters-like, science-driven ExorSystems, Inc. A few other groups exist in the game, which you are free to join: the mystically-minded Mithra Group, the media-driven psychics of PRECOG, and the shadowy agency known only as Department-7. Of course, you don't have to join up with any groups at all - but what's the fun in that?!?

The game works with the d20 modern "metasystem", which means it runs on a core system similar to Dungeons and Dragons.
