Journal Subscriptions

After a year of suggesting it to them, Bravenet finally added a subscription feature to their journal service. What this means is that you can now receive e-mails telling you that I posted something. It should be noted that these messages will be in html (not plain text), will only contain the first 200 characters of the messages I post, and will only give you a link to the journal's main page (not to the specific message I posted).

Last year, if you remember, I killed the Spook Central Mailing List because it was annoying to post two copies of the same message (one to the journal and one to the list). This new feature has essentially become the new Spook Central Mailing List.

Unfortunately, they implimented the new feature in a rather half-assed manner. For starters, the e-mail/confirmation box won't appear in a horizontal layout like I had. It will only appear properly in a side column. Because of the way I have this journal embedded into my site, this caused a HUGE problem. As you can see, I've had to redesign my main page in order to accomodate the new feature.

On top of that, they don't let you unsubscribe from my journal (you have to wait until I post something and use the link included in the e-mails) and they don't let you change your address. Luckily, I've played around with the service and have put together a little box that you can use to unsubscribe. If you need to change your address, just unsubscribe the old one and add a new subscription for the new one. THIS BOX IS FOR UNSUBSCRIBING ONLY. USE THE BOX ON THE LEFT OF ALL PAGES FOR SUBSCRIBING. THERE IS NO CONFIRMATION FOR UNSUBSCRIBING.

All that's left is for Bravenet to add a search feature to the journal service. In the meantime, you can use Yahoo! or Google. Both sites seem to pull up different results, so I suggest that you use both for the same search.
